Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2018

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re like me, you probably struggle a little every year with what to get your mom. Most moms are basically superheroes, so I’m always a fan of giving my mom something she can pamper herself with. With that being said, here are a few ideas for something you can get your mom this Mother’s Day.

  1. Last year, I bought my mom a few things from an Etsy shop called SlightlyMelted. They sell homemade bath bombs, bubble bars, whipped soaps, and sugar scrubs, among other pampering items. Their prices are reasonable, and my mom said she really enjoyed what I got her. I’m not sure if the shop is still in business, because they don’t have any items listed on their Etsy page right now, but I highly recommend items like this.
  2. A gift card to get a massage or a pedicure. My mom almost never stops moving, so giving her an hour or so of time that she can take just for her is a big deal. She’s also still very active riding horses, so she likes to get pedicures to keep her feet happy and from getting too rough or cracked. If you’re on a budget and don’t want to spend too much, Groupon usually has great deals on these kinds of things.
  3. Experiences that the two of you can share. When I asked my mom if there was anything specific she wanted for Mother’s Day this year, she said all she wanted was to see me. I live in a different state now, and although they can travel easily since my dad is a retired pilot, I don’t always get to see them as often as we’d like. Groupon is a great way to find something that you can do with your mom. Wine and painting classes are a great option, and I know some bars or restaurants even have terrarium nights, which look pretty cool. I also took my mom to one of those escape games, and she loved it, because she loves mysteries and we used to play Nancy Drew games together when I was little.

In the end, no one knows your mom better than you, so trust your gut when deciding what to get her. Hopefully she won’t see this, but my mom loves cornflowers, so I found a really pretty cornflower and gold flakes resin necklace on Etsy that I’m planning to get for her, and she’s hopefully going to get to come up and see one of my volleyball games. What are you planning to get your mom this year?

Product Review – ULTA Lilac Breeze Exfoliating Body Scrub

One of my friends recently asked me for a body scrub recommendation, and I realized it might be something y’all are looking for, too. You guys know how much I like ULTA, and their body scrub is one of my favorites. It smells amazing (they have other scents as well; my friend bought coconut cream), they make my skin feel amazing, and they’re so cheap! They make great gifts or are perfect for treat yourself days. I like to use mine mostly on my arms and shoulders, but I will also do my legs right after I shave sometimes. What’s your favorite body scrub?

My Makeup Wish List

My husband keeps asking me what I want for Christmas, and I’m the worst because I honestly have no idea. The only things I wanted I gave on a list to both of our parents, because they tend to press the issue a little more. It has, however, gotten me thinking about my makeup wish list, which I would give my husband, but he doesn’t quite understand the makeup world yet, although he is learning. It’s really sweet.

One thing I’ve been looking for is a quality highlighter. I like my BECCA Backlight Priming Filter, so I imagine I would like their highlighter, too, but I haven’t tried it yet. I also saw that Ulta has Stila highlighters on sale today for 50% off, and I’ve had good results with Stile products before. I generally just use Ulta’s brand highlighters, which work okay, but I want to change it up a little, and I’m not sure which products I should look at. The problem is, I don’t really know what I want out of a highlighter that I’m not getting; I think it’s just something that I’ll know it when I see it.

Another thing I want, which I can’t find in any store, is to be better at applying my eyeliner. I do fine with everyday wear, but I can’t figure out how to do those really glamorous wings that everyone posts pictures of. It’s probably got some to do with the kind of eyeliner I wear, because I mostly use pencils or gel pencils, and I think you have to use liquid eyeliner to get that. Maybe one day I’ll find a liquid eyeliner that doesn’t terrify me.

Finally, I’d love some mascara that doesn’t flake or clump. I don’t even wear it most days, because it gets in my eyes. I have a No. 7 mascara that is the best I’ve found so far. The flaking is minimal, and it clumps way less than most of my other mascaras, but it would still be nice if I could put some on without the fear of having it flake down into my eyes. Usually ones that don’t flake end up clumping, and the ones that don’t clump will flake.

If anyone has any suggestions for my makeup wish list, I would love to hear them. Be one of Santa’s helpers this year and help me mark off my list. What’s on your makeup wish list?

Holiday Gift Guide

Looking for a gift for a friend, coworker, family member, or maybe just a treat for yourself this holiday season? While it can be hard to choose makeup shades for other people, there are a few things that everyone will love. There are tons of makeup sets out there ranging anywhere from $15 to $50 and upwards. These sets include various items including eyeshadow palettes, lip colors, eyeliners, and other things that people love to use in their everyday beauty routines. My favorite place to get these is Ulta, because they almost always have sales and coupons available, and they’re easily returned if you don’t love them.

Another great thing that Ulta does around this time of year is their 5 for $5 sale. This sale is great to get stocking stuffers, and it includes items like bubble bath, bath bombs, lip colors, nail polishes, makeup remover wipes, and more. What’s great about these, is that you can buy for people who aren’t crazy about makeup, because there are so many things to choose from. I’m sure other places have deals like this, but I haven’t stumbled upon them yet.

One thing I really love is a good lip kit. I don’t wear lipstick often, but when I do, it makes me feel really empowered. I feel like I can take on the world. There are a lot of great lip kits available this time of year, with several different shades in one box.  This is perfect for gifts, because even if the recipient doesn’t use all the shades, she’s bound to find one or two that she loves. Plus, it gives her a reason to try something outside of her comfort zone, and she may find her new favorite shade because of it.

As far as brands go, I like NYX solid lipsticks and their lingerie liquid collection. The lingerie liquids are mostly neutral colors, but they last a long time, the shades seem really flattering on everyone, and they aren’t very expensive (around $7 per color). I really like Corset, Baby Doll, and Push Up for neutral shades. I’ve also had good luck with Stila lip colors. Ulta currently has an 8-piece gift set for $45, which looks like it includes some really great neutrals and winter shades.

If lip colors aren’t what you’re looking for, Ulta has a whole section of their website dedicated to holiday gifts. Their gift guide breaks it down by price point (gifts under $25, etc) , makeup type (lip colors, eyeshadows) , and even who you may be shopping for (friends, hostesses). It may not cover everything, but it’s a pretty good place to start if you’re stuck on what to get someone for the holidays. Don’t forget to treat yourself this holiday season, too. Shopping for everyone else is hard work, and you deserve a reward for getting it done.
