Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2018

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re like me, you probably struggle a little every year with what to get your mom. Most moms are basically superheroes, so I’m always a fan of giving my mom something she can pamper herself with. With that being said, here are a few ideas for something you can get your mom this Mother’s Day.

  1. Last year, I bought my mom a few things from an Etsy shop called SlightlyMelted. They sell homemade bath bombs, bubble bars, whipped soaps, and sugar scrubs, among other pampering items. Their prices are reasonable, and my mom said she really enjoyed what I got her. I’m not sure if the shop is still in business, because they don’t have any items listed on their Etsy page right now, but I highly recommend items like this.
  2. A gift card to get a massage or a pedicure. My mom almost never stops moving, so giving her an hour or so of time that she can take just for her is a big deal. She’s also still very active riding horses, so she likes to get pedicures to keep her feet happy and from getting too rough or cracked. If you’re on a budget and don’t want to spend too much, Groupon usually has great deals on these kinds of things.
  3. Experiences that the two of you can share. When I asked my mom if there was anything specific she wanted for Mother’s Day this year, she said all she wanted was to see me. I live in a different state now, and although they can travel easily since my dad is a retired pilot, I don’t always get to see them as often as we’d like. Groupon is a great way to find something that you can do with your mom. Wine and painting classes are a great option, and I know some bars or restaurants even have terrarium nights, which look pretty cool. I also took my mom to one of those escape games, and she loved it, because she loves mysteries and we used to play Nancy Drew games together when I was little.

In the end, no one knows your mom better than you, so trust your gut when deciding what to get her. Hopefully she won’t see this, but my mom loves cornflowers, so I found a really pretty cornflower and gold flakes resin necklace on Etsy that I’m planning to get for her, and she’s hopefully going to get to come up and see one of my volleyball games. What are you planning to get your mom this year?

Treat Yourself 2017

As much fun as the holidays can be, they’re also very stressful. Don’t forget to take some time for yourself this season and relax. Even though it’s the season of giving, that doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself from time to time. Below are some ways I like to take time for myself and get rid of the stress that comes with such a busy season.

One of my favorite ways to relax is with a nice, hot bath and a glass of wine. I’m a white wine girl, so I prefer sauvignon blanc, but red wine is supposedly good for heart health, so no judgements here. I really enjoy adding bath bombs to the tub, because they smell amazing and it’s fun to watch the water turn different colors. I feel like a little kid again. I especially like to use bath bombs that have essential oils in them, because they are specifically designed to relieve stress, ease muscle soreness, and even strengthen your immune health. At the bottom of this post are some pictures that link to some highly rated bath bomb sets infused with essential oils.

I’m also a bookworm, so I love to curl up with a hot cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or apple cider and read whatever book I’m working through at the moment. I’ve recently decided to start the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I haven’t made it very far. Not because it’s not good, just because it’s hard to take my own advice and take some time for myself. My favorite kind of books, though, are mystery novels. I love pouring over the pages and trying to figure out who the killer is before the protagonist does. Very rarely am I successful, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

Online shopping may be one of my vices. Even though I do it a lot without buying anything, I still just like to look through all the products, put them in my cart, and then decide later I don’t need them. But, this is a time for treating ourselves, so why not give yourself the gift of whatever you’ve had stored in your cart for the past few weeks? I especially like to scroll through makeup sites, like Ulta, because their sites are aesthetically appealing, first of all, and I learn about a lot of new products that I may want to try. I also like going through clothing sites like Kohls and Old Navy to see what’s new.

Whatever your relaxation technique, make sure to take time for yourself this holiday season. Too much stress can wreck your immune system, so it’s important to find ways to reduce it so you can stay healthy for all the festivities. Take some time today and treat yourself.
