How to Get Your Hair To Cooperate Easily

Hair and makeup go hand-in-hand, so let’s talk about hair for a second. Now, I am by no means an expert on hair, but I am lazy. I like to leave my hair natural or close to natural as often as possible, and I prefer to air dry it. My hair is pretty thick and there’s a lot of it, so I hate blow drying my hair because it takes so long. My hair is also naturally a little wavy, but not model wavy. It’s more of a “my hair does whatever it wants and occasionally it looks good on its own, but most of the time it doesn’t” kind of wavy. So, how do I get it to cooperate with me, so I don’t have to do much to it?

Shower in the morning. If I have to go somewhere, I like to shower in the morning. Like I said, I like to air dry my hair, so usually if I go to bed with my hair wet, I get some weird kink that won’t go away until I shower again, even if I try to straighten my hair. By showering in the morning, it’s usually dry enough by the time I go somewhere that I don’t have to worry about it, and it mostly does what I want it to.

Air drying alone does tend to leave my hair a little flat. To avoid this, I use a sea salt spray on my hair while it’s still wet. Then I scrunch it a little to give it some waves and volume, and it’s good to go! I’ve tried a lot of sea salt sprays over the years, but the only one that has ever worked for me is Davines This is a Sea Salt Spray. Pretty straight-forward, which I appreciate. This has honestly become one of my favorite things, though. It smells amazing, doesn’t leave my face or hands sticky, and my hair stays soft. You can get it from Birchbox, or get it from Amazon by following the link below.

If all else fails, I pull half my hair back, so it’s half-up and half-down. This way, it’s out of my face, and it looks like I’ve at least done something to it. If I’m feeling really adventurous, I’ll pull the half-up part into a little half-knot. It’s really easy, and it makes me look more put-together than I usually am.

Finding a salt spray that works with your hair is honestly life-changing, so I definitely recommend doing that. Also, it’s worth getting up a little earlier to not have to do anything to your hair. Try showering in the morning if you don’t already. What are some of your favorite hair hacks?
